School Garden '08

Green School

In 2008, after reading about various parts of nature such as trees, birds, frogs and bees we knew we had an interest in nature and we decided we would like to partake in the “Schools Gardening Project”.

Although our main aim was to try and attract as much of nature’s wildlife as we possibly could we also wanted to make our garden an attractive place. With this in mind, our first task was to decide where to locate the garden.

The first major step was to prepare the ground. The clay was very hard and there were lots of stones to be taken away. We were split into groups and each group was given a different task such as carrying the stones, brushing, digging and raking. For the first week most of us helped dig and rake the soil to try and make it suitable for planting. We had to make sure that the stones were carried to a safe place so they wouldn’t be used to break windows and this meant carrying them all the way to the front of the school, which was hard work!
