Green School

AN SCOIL GHLAS

The Green School Committee is busy trying to make the school a more litter-free, cleaner place. The Committee have devised the following strategies to reduce the amount of litter in the yard:

No food wrappers allowed in the yard
Food wrappers are to be put into the lunch box and brought home
Re-usable drinks bottles are the only drinks bottles allowed in the yard
No food or drink to be brought to the yard at the big breaks
Healthy eating from Monday to Thursday with one treat allowed on Friday

There is a class rota for picking up litter in the yard.
Our next project is to reduce the amount of rubbish going into bins and to reduce that number of bins going to landfill from the school each week. At the moment up to 12 wheelie bins each week are going to landfill.
We have conducted a survey to find out what categories of rubbish are going into the bins in the classrooms. From this we want to highlight the amount of recyclable items going to landfill. Then we will hope to recycle those items that should not be going into bins. This will help our environment.
Please help our school go green!
